Onboard: Eric, Terry, Rick, Bill M. & Shep Williams
Terry and I drove down to the Cape for a day of sailing. We drove down on Friday stopping at Chico's Ribs in Altamont New York for fabulous smoked buffalo wings. Originally we were going to race in the Wales Cup, but it was cancelled due to lack of registrants. After Breakfast at the Good Friends Cafe on School St. We went over to the boats. Rick had not arrived yet, so Terry and I took Caper down to the mouth of the river to try out her new prop. The result is that her performance under power is now better. She seems to be able to motor at about 4.5 knot, up from 3.5. It was blowing above 20 knots while we were out.
When we got back to the mooring, Rick and Bill Mullins had arrived, and we decided that we would all take Bill's 1912 built Old Sculpin over to Harwich for lunch. It was a great trip. She was doing six knots double reefed for a good portion of the way. We went into Sagatucket Harbor and had lunch at Brax Landing. Shep Williams joined us for the trip back. to Bass River.
Old Sculpin
As we came back up Bass River, we could see Caper my M18 waiting to go out.
When we got back, the wind had moderated enough that Terry and I took out Caper for a sail, and sailed in company with Rick in his M22 Cait's Cat
The winds were light, but we got her going 5.5 kts at one point. Even with the improved prop, motoring in against the falling tide (a 2 kt. current) was a noticable impediment. A fun sail. The sun was setting as we got back in.
1300-1900HRS Onboard: Bill & Eric Bill and I took Caper to Cotuit for the rendezvous on Saturday. Paul was taking Pumpkin and Bill M. and Rick took Old Sculpin. The new engine runs great, but the prop we have on her will only move her at 3.5 kno
