The day started with a mackerel sky, not usually an auspicious sign. This cloud formation is usually a harbinger of bad weather in about 8-12 hours. However, we had no bad weather.
I had ordered some crew shirts, and handed them out to the regular Arioso Crew.
Before we headed out, we changed to the No.1 jib. We started with no wind, so we motored south, and in about 45 minutes we get a great breeze E@12kn. The wind stayed up for the rest of the evening, but was changing direction, and generally backing into the north. No seaway to speak of. Max wind was 17kn. Great sailing, with the rail almost in the water.
We replaced the main sheet (the cover was worn completely through at the rope clutch) with 60' of 7/16 yacht braid. I also attempted to replace the Genoa car control lines, but I had bought 30' for each side, and actually need 40'. Oh well, back to the chandlery.
Igor Fey from Chicago joined us for the first time, He did a great job on the helm. While we were sailing, Michael pointed out that there was water on the cabin sole. After a thorough investigation of all the through hulls, I finally determined that I had forgotten to put the bilge pump into auto mode when the boat was launched. With all the rain we had, it had filled the bilge, and when we heeled, it came above the cabin sole. I pumped and sponged it up, and we had no more problems after that.
We ended up going counterclockwise around the Islands. and had dinner at the club. Great evening.
